Pacific Gas & Electric Copper Pipe Replacement Project in Ross

As was discussed during the workshop that was held at Town Hall last month, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will begin a construction project in your neighborhood.  This project is part of a multi-year Gas Copper Service Replacement Program to make the system safer and more reliable.

The first wave of the project began on May 30, 2011 at the addresses listed in the links below.  The schedule of addresses will continue to be updated here as new information is provided from PG&E.

PG&E has provided the following detailed information.  If you have any questions regarding the project, please contact Doreen Martinez at PG&E at (415) 695-3277.

Project Scope of Work
This project will upgrade gas facilities in your area.  PG&E’s crews or contractor will be replacing existing copper gas pipes with modern new plastic piping that is more resistant to corrosion and earthquakes.  This work will include replacing your gas pipes that connect from PG&E’s gas main to your homes and businesses.  They may also need to move some gas meters.

What to Expect
You can anticipate construction at your home or business to take one to two days.  During construction you can expect one of the following procedures:  three holes will be dug, one hole adjacent to your meter, the second hole will be located where your gas service connects to PG&E’s main and a third in or near the sidewalk area where the pavement ends or your lawn or landscaping begins. In some special circumstances, a trench might be excavated approximately 18” wide between PG&E’s main and your meter location.  Every effort will be made to minimize the impact to your property.

During the day the street will be open and barricaded while we replace these pipes, and at night the areas will be backfilled and temporary paving installed.  In some cases PG&E‘s crews or contractor may need to get access to the meter location inside of your residence or business.

A PG&E Representative will provide you advance notice of the scheduled replacement and interruption of your gas service.  On the day of the replacement / interruption of your gas service PG&E‘s crews or contractor will dispatch a Gas Serviceman between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to relight your gas appliances.  An adult must be present to allow our PG&E Representative access to your property.  In the event that an adult is not available, your service may not be relit until an adult is available.

Upon completion of work on your block, PG&E will perform temporary “asphalt” paving with final paving to be completed within two to four weeks.

Parking in the area may be impacted.  PG&E‘s crews or contractor will post “No Parking” signs at least 72 hours in advance.  This project will create some noise and dust.  We apologize for any inconvenience. and will do our very best to keep disruption to a minimum.

If you have any questions or concerns about this project, please call Doreen Martinez at PG&E at (415) 695-3277.  Thank you for your cooperation and patience.
